Photographs by A. Daniel Hauser (
Oct 17-29, 2023)

Opening reception: Friday Oct 20, 5-7pm

A. Daniel Hauser (1928-2017) summered on the Outer Cape for over thirty years. His love of the sights and sounds of the area was matched by his love of photography, from taking the photographs to developing them in his darkroom at home. A. D. Hauser photographed what he lived, from European immigrants on his Navy ship in the 1950’s, to portraits of friends and family, to volumes of work on his surroundings in New York City, Europe, Canada, and of course, Massachusetts. His color series from the Audubon Sanctuary in Wellfleet brought him great joy, as did his black and white photographs taken in Provincetown and Truro.

A. Daniel Hauser was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of New York University and a 1953 graduate of Yale Medical School. He was a member of the Camera Club of New York, where he advanced his craft and his artistic vision.

A. Daniel Hauser began his photographic work as a young man with his beloved 35mm Leica and would go on to shoot color and black and white photographs, color slides and eventually digital work with an enviable collection of cameras. A. D. Hauser had shows of his work at Fordham University, as well as The Cathedral of St. John the Divine and in private establishments in New York City. The show at The Commons was all shot with 35mm film and developed by hand by the photographer in his darkroom.

A. Daniel Hauser (1932-2017)
A dedicated physician by trade, Dr. “Buddy” Hauser began his foray into photography as a young man and became a serious photographer as he grew to adulthood. A member of the Camera Club of New York for many years, Buddy summered on the outer cape for over three decades, bringing home rolls and rolls of film to develop in his home darkroom in New York City. His black and white works were featured in a number of shows in NYC, including at The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine and Fordham University’s Manhattan Campus.

A gifted photographer familiar to the denizens of Wellfleet, Provincetown, Soho, Chelsea carrying his 4 x 5 camera with his Leica draped around his neck, he exhibited at St. John the Divine, Fordham University, Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Walden School.
