DIANNE KOPSER

  • The Commons 46 Bradford Street Provincetown, MA, 02657 United States (map)

Artist Reception is Friday, September 22nd from 5:00p - 7:00p

Dianne Kopser grew up in the lush Hudson Valley, painting the river and Catskill mountains. She studied art, including printmaking and glassblowing at U.Va. and Alfred University. After discovering her dreams of huge glass projects were unrealistic (She didn’t have the upper-body strength to control large quantities of glass as they wobbled on the end of the gathering-pipe), she packed up her worldly possessions and moved to Provincetown. There she has worked in oils, clay, watercolor and mixed media, to settle for the moment upon oils. These offer her the flexibility to layer fine, thin washes of color below thick impasto, building up a lively surface. Focusing on a single theme, the bird sanctuary behind her home, Dianne is concentrating on the beauty of individual trees. Their varying prominence evolves as the season progresses, offering Dianne the opportunity to spotlight first the tiny sprigs of oak leaves, then perhaps the structure of a fallen snag behind a budding hydrangea. As the scene changes, so does her work. The early spring this year brought fog, fog and more fog, so for the most part, this series reflects that, but as the solstice came, so did brighter light and more vibrant paint. The spare structure of the trunks and branches has given way to luscious leaf and flower. Dianne looks forward to the fall’s drama with excitement. Dianne is a Chaplain at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Provincetown, and sings second soprano in the Outer Cape Chorale and Chamber Singers.
