From Endangered Species to an Endangered Nation
Please join us at The Commons this Saturday, February 3 at 6pm for a conversation with Olga Shpak. This event is free and open to the public. She Was on the Front Lines of Whale Conservation. Now She’s on the Front Lines of War. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine upended Olga Shpak’s life—and a generation of science.
Dr. Olga Shpak is a former marine researcher specializing in the study of Arctic whales who in the winter of 2015 worked as an aerial observer in the CCS Right Whale Ecology Program, flying right whale surveys over Cape Cod Bay. When war broke out in Ukraine, Olga left behind her 25-year-long scientific career to provide critical supplies for the soldiers fighting on the frontline and is now the director of Assist Ukraine.
Olga, briefly in the U.S. and visiting Provincetown, will present her unique and very personal perspective on the war in Ukraine and her experiences in war torn cities and with soldiers on the front lines. After Olga’s talk there will be an opportunity for questions.
