Artist Statement:
Showing this Halloween, new work by Ptown/Maine artist Alex Stadler. A group of prints on archival paper, from a series of drawings Stadler started working on in spring 2026, during a residency with Estudio Inverso in Madrid. This show inaugurates Stadler’s online printshop, in collaboration with Paper Tides printing in Maine. One third of all proceeds from the show and online store will go to the Frannie Peabody Center in Portland, ME, which provides comprehensive services for people affected by HIV/AIDS. Stadler, whose mother painted watercolors of flowers throughout her life, says, “I’ve been studying the botanical collages of Mary Delany, plant drawings by Ellsworth Kelly, Irving Penn’s 1960s-70’s flower photographs for Vogue, and Ingres’ finished/unfinished portraits for 35 years. These drawings are my attempt to weave all of that information together into one way of seeing.”
Artist Bio:
Alex Stadler is a very undisciplined multidisciplinary artist. For 35 years Stadler has worked as an artist, illustrator, textile designer, author, merchant, muralist , clothing designer, and curator. He graduated from a lousy art school with a good reputation in 1990.
