The Beauty of Invisible Light: an exhibition of fine art infrared photography
by Laurie Klein and Shelley Vandegrift
Opening reception: Saturday, October 8, 4 to 7 PM
Closing: Sunday, October 16, 2 PM
The title of the exhibition refers to the beauty of creating images in the infrared portion
of the light spectrum, which is invisible to the human eye. Infrared photography
creates soulful images that transcend the moment. Yes, opposites attract, and while both Laurie and Shelley are accomplished photographic artists, they approach their work in very different ways. Laurie has created in the infrared spectrum for over 4 decades. She records the mystery and magic of the female form in the landscape and does most of her storytelling in capture. Shelley’s work begins with infrared compositions that are then transformed into mystical stories through her love of post-production techniques, including compositing and digital hand-coloring. Together, Laurie and Shelley are the Invisible Story Team. They are authors of a number of books on technique and creativity from Amherst Press and around the globe in their own workshops and at such renowned schools as Santa Fe Workshops and Maine Media.
