the art of drag fundraiser

Since opening our Art & Design Studios in March 2019, we’ve seen the positive impact of accessible and affordable artist work spaces have made for Outer Cape artists. We have watched our residents compile a body of work, workshop, critique and collaborate with other artists, initiate relationships in the arts community, and find representation within the art gallery system. The Commons artist studios are designed to host a diverse spectrum of artists as part of our mission to support the creative economy of our community.  Our mission is to foster the growth of local artists, engage our art community through educational programming, and make art accessible. We prioritize first time local emerging artists while celebrating more seasoned artists as well.

Jimmy Lee and The Commons would like to give back to the community that has served us so well. In tribute to todays on-going battles about self expression and acceptance we would like to celebrate the art form that most exemplifies these broad concepts… the art of DRAG.

Here is where you come in. We are reaching out to local artists to create portraits of some of our favorite drag personas. We will provide each participating artist an 8x8” (inches) birch plywood panels to use to express their interpretation of one of the drag performers below or their likeness.

These donated works will be on exhibit at The Commons during Jimmy Lee Curtis’ art show August 8th - August 20th and featured in Jimmy’s Fashion Show reception Saturday, August 19th
