RETROSPECTIVE
August 22-September 3
Artist Reception: Friday, August 25, 4:00p to 7:00P
DERMOT MEAGHER began to draw and paint in earnest in 1995 after he lost sight in his right eye due to a botched cataract operation.
Provincetown is a great place to learn to make Art because of its many short term summer classes with great artists at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Fine Arts Work Center, and the Castle Hill Art Center in Truro.
Dermot studied with Paul Bowen, Mike Wright, and Larry Collins at those institutions as well as with Raphael Noz, Rob Moore, Brian Campbell andElisabeth Mc Dermott Meagher.
At the recommendation of artist Ed Crane he began using Japanese Sumi Ink and only drew with that and Walnut Ink for a while.
As predicted by Helen Miranda Wilson, he eased his way into color and his work became more abstract.
It’s hard to pin down his style. He’s never attempted to have one.
“I just draw or paint and rejoice when something happens.”
tt Meagher.
