JOAN LEE STASSI

  • The Commons 46 Bradford Street Provincetown, MA, 02657 United States (map)

Among the complex influences that permeates JoanLee Stassi's paintings and mono prints, the sea plays a prominent role. Additional images that are present in her work, contain elements of nature, investigations into psychological conditions, recollections of past cultures and universal symbols. These images are perpetually stimulated by living in Provincetown, MA. surrounded by the sea for over twenty years.

Stassi’s paintings range in scale from large canvases to small intimate panels. No matter the size, her work captivates and lures the viewer into a mysterious psychological world. The images emerge through the repeated process of layering, an act of adding, subtracting and pushing paint around until the visual language is complete.

JoanLee Stassi - Painter & Fine Artist

The sea plays a prominent role in the imagery found in my paintings and prints. The opportunity to live and work in the oceanside community of Provincetown, Massachusetts, along with travels to various Caribbean Islands continually nurtures my visual language. The lure into the myths and rituals found in primitive cultures, Carl Jung’s theory of universal symbolism, along with the beauty nature provides are important elements that I draw from. The images emerge through the repeated acts of layering, adding, subtracting and pushing paint around until a resolution into a mysterious psychological world is complete. My passion for music is a strong and powerful part of my creative process. I’m always seeking and searching for inspiration from music and musicians that have crossed my path on one level or another.
