Mallory White
“BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT I DO” A SHOW BY MALLORY WHITE
Opening reception: Saturday, August 14th @ 5 - 7pm
Mallory has been a seasonal resident, art student and painter in Provincetown for
25 years. She also spent 45 years in Santa Fe New Mexico, another incredible art
colony with a great and long tradition of diversity. “Because That’s What I Do” is
eclectic and ranges from representational to somewhat abstract.
This show includes still lifes, (with a select group of her Pear Series), , florals in somewhat non-traditional ways, birds, landscapes, and more. The work is very direct and straightforward and is characterized by clean and clear colors. While the subject matter is varied, the look of the paintings ties together. She is a longtime member of PAAM, Truro Center for Fine Arts and the New Mexico Fine Arts Museum.
The studio in Provincetown that she rented for many years was “repurposed” near the end of 2019. “The Commons came to my rescue and after applying, I was accepted to become a resident artist in one of their Art & Design Studios. I’ve been able to continue painting and studying thanks to them.” “ I’ve been wearing two hats for many years – one as a painter and the other as an Investment Advisor and co-owner of White & Luff Financial in New Mexico. The painter hat is the one that I dream of at night.”

Mallory has been studying and producing art for 30 years. Mallory became a part-time resident of Provincetown in 1996, and spends part of the year in Hollywood, Florida. Mallory grew up in Kansas City, Mo and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to open a financial brokerage firm. Mallory was surrounded by people involved in the world of art & music and her fascination with painting began at as a young girl on many visits to the Nelson-Adkins Fine Arts Museum.
Her expertise includes oil, acrylic and mixed media. She mainly uses brushes, pallet knives and various tools. She has worked with encaustic painting and gold leaf and prefers canvas, but also paints on panels.
Surrounded by art & culture in two historic “art colonies” - Provincetown and Santa Fe, she began painting in the late ‘80’s and has studied extensively with mentors, & has taken numerous workshops and classes. Mallory is a long time member and contributor to PAAM, Castle Hill and The New Mexico Fine Arts Museum.
